Rats and Mice Control

Since its introduction to the UK in the 1700’s the brown rat, which is incredibly adaptable has become established and can be found almost everywhere in the UK, in any habitat.

All they need is food and shelter which is available in abundance. Brown rats are omnivorous, eating pretty much anything, from human waste, fruit and seeds, insects, birds including poultry, eggs, and small mammals.

They are very common around towns and cities making use of drains and sewers. Brown rats live in loose colonies and dig their own burrows.

They breed quicker than rabbits, a female brown rat can breed from around 3 months old, and has an average of five litters a year, a gestation period of 21 – 23 days and will have five to 10 young per litter. Some of the bad press is due to the 42 diseases that they carry that are dangerous for humans.

The brown rat has grey-brown fur, a pointed nose, large, bare ears and a long, scaly tail. It is much bigger than any mouse species.
